Public Talk:
UNRAVELING OUR EMOTIONS
Friday 24 February 7.30-9pm

The Buddhist view is that we’ve all got extraordinary potential. It’s not some special gift that only some people have; it’s innate within all of us. But potential for what? Not something holy, like heaven in the sky, or next life, but potential to lessen fear, depression, anxiety, neediness, low self-esteem and to grow love, contentment, compassion, clarity, courage and the other qualities we so badly want.
The key to accomplishing this is to understand these deeply ingrained habits by going deeply into our own minds, unraveling the complexity of the emotions, seeing them clearly and learning how to harness and transform them.

Teachings: HOW ATTACHMENT PERVADES OUR LIVES
Saturday 25 February 9.30am-9pm, Sunday 26 February 9.30am-5pm

What are referred to in the Mahayana Buddhist literature as the “eight mundane concerns” or the “eight worldly dharmas” are, in fact, simply primordial levels of attachment that exist virtually as assumptions in our minds. This assumption is that I must get what I want every second, thus causing us to constantly crave happy feelings, getting nice things, hearing pleasant words with our name in them, and having people approve of us. Attachment can't stand it when we get the opposite!
In fact, the more we look into our minds - be our own therapists, as Lama Yeshe wisely puts it - the more we see that these attitudes inform most of our decisions in daily life, thus causing us anger, anxiety, depression and so much confusion and pain. Reversing these attitudes - so radical! - is the essence of spiritual practice.
